| Paymer Associates, LLC, is proud to be the exclusive Connecticut provider of the SCRAMx bracelet from Alcohol Monitoring Systems, Inc. The SCRAMx bracelet detects a person’s use of alcohol 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, providing continuous alcohol monitoring.
What is SCRAMx?
The patented SCRAMx ankle bracelet – the heart of the SCRAMx system – is attached to the client with a durable and tamper-proof strap. It is worn by the client for the duration of his or her abstinence period.
Every half hour, the bracelet captures transdermal alcohol readings by sampling the insensible perspiration collected from the skin. The bracelet stores the data and, at pre-determined intervals, transmits it via radio-frequency (RF) signal to the base station. If a drinking incident has occurred, Paymer Associates will be notified.

The SCRAMx system is the perfect choice for the following situations:
- Ensuring complete abstinence from alcohol
- Monitoring treatment progress
- Gauging client drinking patterns and tailoring individualized treatment
Continuous Alcohol Monitoring:
While blood, urine, and breathalyzer tests only measure sobriety at a specific point in time, SCRAMx samples the client every half hour. This results in complete 24/7 coverage, rather than just a snapshot look at when your clients are abstinent.
Scientifically-Proven Technology:
SCRAMx is based on scientifically-proven continuous transdermal alcohol monitoring technology, which is the result of more than 70 years of research and 22 peer-reviewed studies. Some of these studies include those conducted by the:
- Traffic Injury Research Foundation (TIRF)
- University of Colorado Health Science Center
- Michigan Department of Corrections
- Alaska Justice Statistical Analysis Center
If the client has been drinking, SCRAMx will detect varying levels of ethanol to qualitatively determine alcohol consumption – showing whether the client has consumed a small, moderate, or substantial amount of alcohol.
Evidence-Based Assessment and Detection:
The SCRAMx bracelet can conclusively distinguish between ingested and environmental alcohol due to the controlled sample delivery system. It is vitally important to be able to distinguish whether the client drank or came into contact with an environmental alcohol source. This will allow for conclusive, evidence-based decisions.
Court Acceptance:
Alcohol Monitoring Systems Inc. is used in 48 states and has prepared over 2,500 formal court reports that detailed the monitoring results of offenders who denied a violation. Court testimony has been provided in over 80 evidentiary hearings across the country, with favorable Frye/Daubert rulings, 1 State Supreme Court ruling, and 1 Appellate Court ruling.
Cost Effective, Automated Testing:
Transdermal testing has a relatively low cost per test, making it a viable and cost-effective alternative to multiple urine, saliva, and breathalyzer tests. Additionally, it is physically non-invasive and minimally disruptive on the client’s daily activities.
- Offers a low cost per test
- Requires no labor after installation or appointments to administer tests
